925 is stamped on my Sterling Silver, why?

The 925 is a Hallmark placed on items made of precious metals such as silver. 925 is to prove that it is sterling silver, (not silver plated or some other kind of metal)

99.9 pure sterling silver is generally to soft for producing strong jewelry

Sterling Silver is an alloy of silver containing 92.5% mass of silver and 7.5% of other metals usually copper

There fore the silver stamped with 925 is an alloy with copper to give it strength
